Our Little Garden

We made our little gardens. We planted lots of different vegetables. We planted chilli, eggplant, watercress, cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, cress, chives, fennel, parsley and dill.

We read the instructions and we put our soil tablet on the saucer and poured some water on top of the soil tablet. The soil tablet grew, and we put the soil into the pot.

We planted our little garden in a little cardboard pot and put them on the window sill so they will get enough sun.

Sustainable Energy Talk

Two weeks ago a lady came from Vector to our school to teach us about the sustainable energy. So she talked about renewable energy like solar energy, water energy and wind energy.

Two boys used light from the lamp to make the helicopter fan go spinning
around. It went really slow then it went faster. This was solar energy. We get solar energy from the sun.

After that, we went outside and she showed us a solar powered car. The vector lady put down the solar powered car and the sun reflected on the car and it started moving. After that the vector lady gave us a sustainable energy booklet to use.
We need to be careful with energy because we can't live without it.

Year 7 Trip to the Zoo

On Tuesday 23rd August we went to the zoo trip with rooms 2,27,11 and 13 on a bus. We went there to learn about sustainability and we went to the central lawn. Then we had to go and look around.

First we saw the red panda- it liked to play and it was climbing and hiding. Next we got to watch the meerkats and they were so cute. Some of them were sleeping and some were staring at us. Then we got to look at the orangutans. They were huge and furry.

So my favourite animals are the red pandas and the orangutans and meerkats. I learned about the animals habitats and how they can survive by not chopping down the forests and the jungles.
In New Zealand we have to protect the kiwis by making them safe from the predators like wild cats and dogs.

Making Vegetarian Pizza - Year 7 ESOL Group.

We are making vegetarian pizzas. We are reading a story about how to make pizzas.

We used crumpets for our base.
We put tomato sauce on our base and spread it out.
Then we put tomato, onion, mushrooms, pineapple and peppers on our pizzas.
We put cheese on the top of our pizzas.

Then we put our pizzas in the oven for 15 minutes.
While our pizzas were cooking we wrote a procedure about our pizza making.
Then we ate our pizzas and they were so tasty and yummy.

We checked to see if our procedure worked. We wrote about that-our pizzas were delicious and yummy.

Art Week at Mt Roskill Intermediate

Our hall exhibition
We had Art Week at our school where we could make and do lots of different Art activities.
Some of the activities were string art, wearable art, henna design, tapa cloth making, sculptures and Mondrian Art and stone carving.  It was really amazing looking at what people made.

We set up all the artwork in the hall for the exhibition so our parents could come and see what we did for art week.
Our group painted the wall in the Library.
We got the idea from the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian. We painted blue, yellow, red, white and black squares and rectangles with black lines.

The wall looks wonderful. It is bright and colourful. We feel really proud of it.
